“Second chances, everybody deserves it, right? And you, yes YOU! You definitely deserve a second chance. A second chance at love, a second chance at life, a second chance at happiness.”
A dog abandoned by its heartless owner, deserves a second chance at life, deserves to find its forever home. A prodigal son who keeps on disobeying his parents for years, deserves forgiveness when he sincerely wants to be reunited with his family. An old high school flame who chose the most popular girl over you deserves to have his second chance at love with you, especially if you still love him.
“Life is a series of ups and downs, left and right, black and white, right or wrong, trial and error. Maybe it’s about time for you to make up for all the lost moments in your life. Tomorrow is not promised, after all. Take risks, get out, prepare to be hurt, because in the end, you will only regret the things you did not do.”
Let me tell you a story about a friend of mine. On the 24th day of December 2015, during the busy Christmas season, when everyone was preparing for the Christmas eve party, the doorbell rang. She opened the door and was pleasantly surprised to see an old friend waiting for her on the doorstep, holding two cups of coffee. One for her and one for him. She was surprised he remembered she loves coffee.
When they parted ways ten years ago, they were not in good terms. She hurt him in ways a girl could callously crush the fragile ego of a 17 year old kid. They got to talking. Each of them apologizing for their mistakes, their insensitivity, their selfishness. Fast forward to today, they are blissfully in love, building their dreams together, traveling to exotic places, and planning to spend the rest of their lives together.
Maybe not all the time but it does happen to people who take risks, people who forgive, people who decide to take second chances. Maybe your mom ought to be forgiven for being so strict. That college buddy of yours who spread nasty rumors about you, why not try to give your friendship another shot? Remember your slave driver boss who said you would never amount to anything? Why not pay him a visit and tell him how he inspired you to be excellent at work?
I could go on and on about the people in your life who deserve a second chance to reconnect with you. At the end of the day, it is your choice that matters. But I tell you, when you choose to give second chances, you give yourself a shot at happiness. After all, nobody’s perfect. We all make mistakes that we regret later on in life.
We can’t turn back the hands of time. What’s done is done.
Once Humpty Dumpty fell, all the kings horses and all the kings men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again, once butter is mixed with sugar, we cannot separate them apart, once the present arrives, it becomes too late to live in the past.
“There are no do-overs but there are second chances. So what are you waiting for? Give yourself a second chance. You see, you cannot rewrite the past, but you can write your future.”
You deserve to be happy!
